Edinboro Majors of Interest Page

For my two majors that i chose to research are Biology and Anthropology which are both very different when comparing the two course requirements.  Biology: (Pre-Medical)  This program will start me out on my path to become a sports doctor.  I have had a strong passion for becoming a sports doctor for at least 5 years now since I developed a passion for exercise and diet.  Anthropology: This course will help me get into a career with my other passion, research.  I love reading and looking up answers especially when pertaining to different cultures around the world.
About 5 years ago a good friend of mine introduced me to the world of weight lifting.  I instantly fell in love with it, I had to learn more!  I started researching online and in magazines about workout routines, diet plans, and supplements.  I soon showed much improvement in my workouts and I was so amazed with what I was capable of lifting.  I now needed to know how the body worked and how far i could push it.  Soon I found out how far I could push it, the hard way.  I got a sever stress fracture to the right Talus playing basketball 2 years ago. This injury had changed my life and made me realize that I want to help other athletes with injuries like mine.
Some of the required classes for Pre-med include, 3 calculus classes, lots of biology ,chemistry, and physics.  Most of the requirements in this course are difficult and don't intimidate me to much except for the math. The math involved is pretty hard and I have been skeptic to whether I could handle the challenge, but I have to remember life is not a spectator sport!  Some of the internship programs include Harvard University, National Aquarium, Pittsburgh zoo, Allegheny County morgue, and many more.  This is a passion for me as well as a good career option and i plan on doing my best to make it through.
I have always been captured by the intrigue of history and different civilizations. I grew up watching The History Channel, and the discovery Channel as well as reading books such as  the Indiana Jones series.  I have been after the life of adventure and mystery since i was a kid wandering into the woods with a shovel and a bagged lunch in my sack.  Anthropology: "the science of human beings; especially : the study of human beings and their ancestors through time and space and in relation to physical character, environmental and social relations, and culture" (Merriam Websters dictionary).  Internships for this program include,Erie County Historical Society, Edinboro Area Historical Society, Drake's Wells, Center for American Archaeology, American Museum of Natural History, Multicultural Health Evaluation Delivery Systems. With anthropology you have a wide variety of careers available to you including Archeology, Museums, and research of many kinds. Most students studying in this field chose to further education with a masters program.   The course is very intellectually stimulating with lots of research, reading, and also lots of writing.  Most of the required courses are History classes, Psychology, and sociology.  The course description for this major is not as intimidating and looks very intriguing. Such classes as "Ritual, Majic, and myth" seem like they could be very fun.
